Church on Sunday is not free! What do I mean by that? Next time you go to church, look around. The lights are on, the floors are vacuumed, the bathrooms are clean and best yet, the building you are in is standing. All this does not happen without money. True, churches are a non-profit organization, but that doesn’t mean that the electrical company turns their head to the electricity being used in the church and the building that the electric currents are running through was not built free of charge just because the building has the word church in it. The running of a church takes money, just as any business does. Now don’t get me wrong. I am not saying that the church is a business. It is a place of worship, fellowship and a second home for believers. Churches run primarily on the donations of others. The Bible says to give back to the church and this is done mainly from the church congregation in the form of a tithe. A tithe is the tenth part of one’s annual income contributed voluntarily or due as a tax, especially for the support of the clergy or church. In many cases, the tithe given by the congregation is not enough to keep the church running. Therefore, many churches need to find other ways in order to raise money. In some form or fashion, they hold a fundraiser.
By holding a fundraiser a church will be able to raise the money needed in order to pay for expenses, increase the size of the church for one reason or another, help with missions, or simply to help pay for the youth to go on a youth church trip. One way this is done is by churches holding church fundraiser dinners. Everyone bringing a dish or having a caterer and charging a certain dollar amount for each plate can do this. Everyone has to eat and by knowing that the money is going to a good cause can really draw in people. Not only will it be a time to raise money, but also the church can use this time to spread the word of God.
